How It Works
To calculate a tip, multiply the bill by the tip percentage and divide by 100. For a 20% tip on a $50 bill: $50 × 0.20 = $10 tip, $60 total. To split evenly, divide the total by the number of people. The "round up" option rounds the total to the nearest dollar — a common practice that slightly increases the effective tip percentage and makes for cleaner change.
Standard US tipping: 15–18% for adequate service, 20% for good service, 25%+ for exceptional. Tipping norms vary by country — in many parts of Europe and Asia, tipping is not customary or is already included as a service charge.
