How It Works
How Budget Tracking Works
A budget tracker helps you understand where your money goes by recording every income and expense. Over time, patterns emerge — and awareness alone tends to reduce unnecessary spending.
The 50/30/20 Rule
A popular starting point: allocate 50% of after-tax income to needs (housing, food, utilities), 30% to wants (entertainment, dining out, hobbies), and 20% to savings and debt repayment. Use the budget limits on each category to enforce these targets.
Envelope Budgeting
The envelope method assigns every dollar a job before the month begins. Set a monthly limit per category — once a category is spent out, you stop spending there. This tool's per-category budget limits and progress bars replicate this approach digitally.
