Pomodoro Timer
Work in focused blocks with short breaks between, and a longer break every few sessions.
Focus
25:00
The Pomodoro Technique, devised by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, breaks work into timed blocks of focus separated by short breaks. The classic rhythm is 25 minutes of focus and a 5-minute break, with a longer 15-minute break after every fourth focus session — a full cycle of four takes two hours and ten minutes. Each block is short enough to start without dread and long enough to get something done, and the breaks keep a long day from wearing you down. All four numbers can be changed in Settings.
Press Start and work until the chime. The timer moves to the break and waits for you, unless you turn on Start the next phase automatically. The dots show where you are in the current cycle, and Skip moves straight to the next phase without counting the one you left. Pause keeps your place; Reset starts the cycle again from the first focus session.
Every finished focus session is added to Today, with the time it ended and, if you typed one, what you were working on, and the total focused time is shown at the top. The log, your settings and your preferences are kept in this browser and start afresh each day; nothing is sent anywhere. While the timer runs, the countdown also shows in the browser tab's title, so you can keep an eye on it from another tab. The chime is scheduled on your device's audio clock when each phase starts, so it sounds on time even if this tab is in the background.
How long is a Pomodoro?
Traditionally 25 minutes of focus followed by a 5-minute break, with a 15-minute break after every four. You can set each to suit your work.
Does the timer keep running in a background tab?
Yes. It counts down against the clock rather than counting ticks, and the chime is scheduled on the audio clock, so neither falls behind when the tab is hidden.
What happens when I skip?
The current phase ends without being counted, and the next one is loaded. A skipped focus session is not added to today’s total.
Is my history saved?
Today’s sessions are saved in this browser and cleared at the start of the next day. Nothing leaves your device.
