Family Tree

Build and explore your family tree — offline and private.

Add people one at a time, with whatever you know — a year is enough for a date — and say who their parents and spouses are. The pedigree shows four generations of ancestors of whoever is in the first column: click anyone to put them there. Children and spouses are listed under the chart.

A pedigree follows the direct line — parents, grandparents, great-grandparents — which is how genealogists number and research ancestors. Brothers, sisters, aunts and cousins are the collateral lines: they are in the tree, reached through the parent they share.

Everything stays in this browser. Export backup saves a file that Import brings back here, on this device or another; Export GEDCOM writes the standard format that Gramps, Family Tree Maker, Ancestry and FamilySearch can import.

Is my family tree uploaded anywhere?

No. It is stored in this browser only. Clearing site data deletes it, so keep an exported backup.

What if I only know a year?

Enter just the year, or a year and month as 1901-03. Genealogy records are mostly partial, and GEDCOM exports them that way too.

Can I import a GEDCOM file?

Not yet — import reads this tool’s own backup. GEDCOM goes out, to genealogy software that can do far more with it.
